Purpose:
SNCC protects access to climbing in Southern Nevada by encouraging responsible stewardship and community involvement among local climbers.
Part of responsible stewardship includes learning about the policies on the lands where we recreate. Taking stewardship "next level" involves building relationships with land managers and advocating for policies which keep or expand access, while conserving the resources of the land.
In 2025, the SNCC introduced two new board member positions to act as Liaisons to Land Managers with the Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service for Southern Nevada. Annie Ashenfelter has been serving in the role of BLM Liaison for the past year, and would like to share some updates about what happened, what it's like now, and what's coming next.
* what is the relationship between the BLM, Access Fund, SNCC and Southern Nevada climbers?
* what is a Climbing Management Plan, and why does it matter?
* what is happening with the CMP for Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, and why don't we have one yet?
* what is the status of the PARC Act, and what's next from the DOI?
