Rebolting Efforts

With your help, we are able to identify routes in need of bolt replacements, obtain the necessary tools, and gather the volunteer hours necessary to keep our crags a safer place to enjoy.

Bad bolts can be reported here. There is also a Mountain Project forum thread which can be used to report bad bolts. We keep an inventory of the reports and take a look at the reported issues when possible.

Bolting Ban Information

There is currently no bolting allowed in designated Wilderness areas (Rainbow Mountain and La Madre) per the existing Red Rock NCA Resource Management Plan (see here)

You can find a map of the Wilderness area in the Red Rock NCA here.

Rebolting Mentor Program

We are recruiting volunteers for our rebolting mentorship program to help us replace unsafe anchors in Southern Nevada.

This is an important and critical skill set involving precise use of tools and hardware and long lasting decisions.  Rebolting involves lots of time, often a day or more for a single pitch route to make sure everything is right.  It can be very rewarding and fulfilling work, as well as feeling like a day of volunteer construction work while hanging on a rope.

So if heavy packs and a good dose of suffering sound like fun to you, email for more information on our rebolting mentorship program: thomas@southernnevadaclimbers.org.
